Peanut-Free Nut Butter Spreads

Research shows that those with an allergy eat the same things over and over again in fear of triggering an adverse reaction with the wrong foods. It can be hard to read labels and find new tasty products when you’re on a special allergen-free diet.

Sifter is a great tool to search for products that omit a special ingredient. Take peanut butter, a favorite and iconic food in the U.S.—but not if you're allergic to peanuts. Thanks to exploding availability of other types of nut butter (almond, cashew, and so many more), people with peanut allergies can still enjoy a delicious "nut butter & jelly" sandwich.

Let's use Sifter to find nut-butter alternatives to traditional peanut butter spreads. Nut butters are a go-to food for me because they are made with the right type of fat—a good fat that is healthful for your heart—plus they are a good protein source that can satiate, are low in carbs for those counting, and can add a variety of tasty flavors.

Here's how I shop on Sifter for peanut-free nut butter spreads:

  1. Go to Aisles, and select Condiments & Sauces
  2. Then select Nut Butters & Spreads
  3. Select Peanuts-None under Allergens & Concerns, further narrowing my choices
  4. From here, I can sift further by selecting products and reading through the ingredients. As with peanut butter, watch out for excess salt and excess sugar in nut butter spreads.
