Shopping Celiac and Vegan for Great Tasting Bread

For many people, the advantages and benefits of a gluten-free and/or vegan diet translate to better health. For others, food allergies or medical conditions require careful shopping. People with celiac disease, for example, must eliminate gluten from their diet to help manage their condition, but many don’t know that bread products can be made with egg, lactose or milk. This makes it tough to follow a vegan diet that also needs to be gluten free.

Fortunately, shopping celiac is easier than ever with Sifter, even when shopping for multiple dietary restrictions like celiac plus vegan. Here's how I shop on Sifter for great tasting bread that is both celiac-friendly (gluten free) and vegan.

  1. Start by clicking on the Aisles and selecting Bread & Bakery. Then, I select Packaged Bread.
  2. The next step is important: select Vegan under Lifestyle Diets and Celiac (No Gluten) under Health Diets. Choosing these SiftTags narrows my options considerably.
  3. From here, I can sift further by clicking on products to read through their label details. I look for gluten-free ingredients like oat, rice, millet, and quinoa because they are flavorful substitutes for wheat and give a nutty taste. My favorite vegan and gluten-free bread products are shown below.
