Nutrition Bars When You're Recovering from Lyme Disease
Most of us love the outdoors. Whether you’re into camping or just a leisurely walk in beautiful nature, one thing to be aware of is ticks. Tick bite from an infected black-legged tick can cause Lyme disease, which affects an estimated 476,000 Americans every year. These ticks are most common in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, as well as states within the North Central and West Coast area. Symptoms of Lyme disease can occur anytime from 3 to 30 days after the tick bite and can include rash, fever, fatigue, and inflammation.
Aside from medical treatment, diet can play an important role in easing some of the symptoms and supporting recovery from Lyme disease. This includes plenty of antioxidant-rich colorful fruits and vegetables, high-quality protein, good bacteria for gut health, and avoiding added sugars, dairy ingredients, gluten, and refined carbohydrates. How to find all these benefits in a portable, pocket-friendly package can be a challenge. Let me show you how to sift for nutrition bars to take on your next excursion in the outdoors, even if it’s just your backyard!
- First, select the Snacks & Candy aisle, and then select Granola & Nutrition Bars. There are ~2,600 product options.
- Let’s scroll down to Health Diets. Click on Lyme & Tick. Now we have nearly 200 products with many different types of bars to select from, ranging from Cereal & Breakfast Bars to Protein Bars.
- I prefer bars that are good for immune health, so let’s go ahead and scroll down to Lifestyle Diets. Select Immune Support, which reduces the number of options to about 60 bars.
- And now we can narrow the selection even further to find protein-rich, gluten-free, nutritious bars. Just click on Protein Bars, and now you have ~40 delicious bars to choose from. Some of my favorites are shown below.
