After-School Snack: Healthy Yogurt Parfait
Ideally, we want to prepare after-school snacks that are quick, easy, and delicious. Snack time can also be an opportunity to engage children in the kitchen. When kids take ownership of their food and begin learning basic culinary skills, they're taught to take pride in what they're eating and to fuel their bodies with nutritious options.
Shopping for healthy snack ingredients is easy with Sifter, particularly if you have a child with food allergies or sensitivities. Our dietary filters (we call them "SiftTags") make it a snap to find food appropriate for your children—food products that don't contain any unwanted allergens or ingredients. I would recommend creating a MyDiet Profile called "After-School Snack," and then applying the Clean-Style and Organic filters, along with any other SiftTags that match your child's diet needs (e.g., Peanuts - None, Dairy - None, Diabetes, etc.).
Ready to start? This yogurt and berry parfait is a fun and healthy snack for you and your junior chef to make together!
What you will need:
- A small glass jar (a mason jar works well)
- Plain yogurt
- Honey or maple syrup
- Any type of berry (I like blueberries and strawberries)
- Granola
- And a spoon, of course, to dig into the completed masterpiece!
Preparation
Step 1: Drizzle a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup down the inner rim of the jar.
Step 2: Throw in 1-2 clean whole strawberries at the bottom. This will be an incentive for the child to finish the snack and get to the surprise fruit.
Step 3: Top the strawberries with a ¼ c. plain yogurt
Step 4: Add a layer of fresh, washed blueberries
Step 5: Add another ¼ c. of plain yogurt
Step 6: Top with your favorite granola (I prefer low-sugar to no-sugar-added granola)
Step 7: Enjoy!
